Curling 101 - Adult Learn to Curl
Our Fall program is now FULL.
So you want to give curling a try? You've found the right place! This course is modelled after Curling Canada's Getting Started for Adults program. The goal is for novice curlers to get progressively better through continued weekly instruction and skill development.
When: The course runs on Saturday mornings from 9:30am to 11:30am for six weeks. The next session is planned to begin in the Fall of 2025.
Intended Audience: The program is intended for adults of all ages with little or no curling experience. It is also ideal for novice curlers who would like to further develop their skills. The program is available to members and non-members.
Curriculum: The first four weeks features learn-to-curl instruction from certified and trained instructors. The main topics include: safety, three-step and seven-step delivery, grip and release, brushing, layout of a curling sheet, rules and etiquette, and basic strategy. The last two weeks are devoted to playing practice games, overseen by instructors and experienced curlers.
Equipment: A helmet or protective curling head band is mandatory for all participants. The best option is a helmet that protects the back of your head (e.g. curling, skateboard, snowboard, or hockey helmet). You will also need a clean pair of running shoes (preferably not worn outside). Loose fitting pants and a warm sweater or jacket are recommended. All other equipment is provided (slip-on sliders, grippers, and brooms).
Cost: Non-members pay $150 plus HST. Participants that sign up for a winter membership after completing the course receive 50% off their membership fees. (Capital charge and Volunteer deposit still apply - see the Membership page for fees) We accept credit and debit cards (Visa & MC) with online registrations. Cash, cheque or Interac debit (at the club) are also available (please contact the organizer).
